Messrs Craig Wilson Ltd sold 10 prime heifers at Ayr yesterday to a top of £1210 per head and 235p per kg to average £1143.76 and 217.4p, while a prime bull fetched £1026 or 135p.
In the rough ring 89 beef cows sold to £1130 and 169.9p to average 120.7p, while 128 dairy cows peaked at £950 and 124.6p to level at 90.4p. Thirty-four clean, OTM cattle (that were mostly dairy-bred) sold to £1040 and 146.5p to average 121.5p.
The firm also had 25 beef-breeding cattle forward at their monthly sale. Top prices and averages: Heifers with calf-at-foot to £1750 and averaged £1455 for 8; cows and calves £1550 and £1356 for 5; in-calf heifers £1180 and £1051.66 for 6; a pen of 5 bulling heifers sold for £1140 each, while a Limousin bull fetched £1575.
A smaller show of 7 dairy cattle sold to £1550 for a Holstein Friesian heifer and averaged £1269.
Wallets Marts sold 1512 prime hoggs in Castle Douglas yesterday to a top of £78 per head and 193.5p per kg to average £64.84 and 163p (-5.3p on the week).
There were also 272 cast sheep forward when ewes sold to £93 for Beltex and £45.50 for Blackfaces.
