Messrs Craig Wilson Ltd sold 10 prime heifers at Ayr yesterday to a top of £1276.50 per head and 232p per kg to average £1193.56 and 222.5p.

In the rough ring 27 beef cows sold to £860 and 131p to average 119.6p, while 103 dairy cows peaked at £970 and 123.7p to level at 96.2p. Seven bulls sold to £1480 and 166.3p to average 118.1p, while 7 clean, OTM cattle peaked at £930 and 146.5p to level at 112.9p.

There was also a small show of 6 dairy cattle that sold to £1620 for a Holstein Friesian heifer and averaged £1283.

Wallets Marts had 885 prime hoggs forward in Castle Douglas yesterday when all classes were sharper on the week with only over-fat types weighing between 40 and 43kg showing little difference. Top prices on the day were £85 per head and 189p per kg with the overall average levelling at £70.43 and 169.4p (+12.9p on the week).

There were also 186 cast sheep that met a dearer trade than last week with ewes selling to £89 for Texels, £67.50 for Mules and £48 for Blackfaces.
