MESSRS Craig Wilson Ltd sold nine prime heifers at Ayr yesterday to a top of £1314.95 per head and 232p per kg to average £1263.74 and 226.8p.
In the rough ring 42 beef cows sold to £1450 and 183.9p to average 139.6p, while 136 dairy cows peaked at £1190 and 145.1p to level at 115.3p. Nine bulls sold to £1270 and 155.2p to average 121.4p, while 11 clean, OTM cattle peaked at £1240 and 201.8p to level at 170.5p.
The firm also had 40 dairy cattle forward that incorporated a pre-sale show of pedigree Ayrshire cows and heifers. The championship was awarded to a calved-heifer off Brocklehill that went on to sell for 1650gns, while the reserve ticket also went to Brocklehill for a calved-cow. Thirteen pedigree Ayrshire cows and heifers averaged £1024.62, 12 commercial cows and heifers averaged £1060, and 15 grass-calving cows and heifers averaged £773.33.
Wallets Marts sold 438 prime hoggs in Castle Douglas yesterday to a top of £88.50 per head and 214p per kg to average £70.48 and 171.6p per kg (+10.6p on the week).
A small show of 109 cast sheep saw ewes sell to £120 for Texels, £71 for Mules and £66 for Blackfaces.
