MESSRS Craig Wilson Ltd sold 78 store heifers at their May sale in Newton Stewart on Friday to a top of 265.2p per kg to average 217.5p, while 142 store, beef-bred bullocks peaked at 302.6p and levelled at 235.7p. One-hundred-and-seven store, dairy-bred bullocks sold to 184.8p and averaged 157.8p.

The firm went on to sell 593 prime hoggs at Ayr yesterday to a top of £112 per head and 229.4p per kg to average 191.7p (+13.7p on the week), while 203 prime lambs peaked at £119 and 263.6p to level at 243.4p (+34p).

There were also 436 cast sheep forward when heavy ewes sold to £147.50 for Texels and averaged £72.57, while light ewes peaked at £67.50 for Blackfaces and levelled at £52.86.

Harrison & Hetherington Ltd sold 58 prime heifers in St Boswells yesterday to a top of 248p and an average of 221p (+1p), while 20 prime bullocks peaked at 243p and levelled at 219p (+3p). Three prime bulls sold to 210p and averaged 191p.

In the rough ring 62 beef cows sold to 195p and averaged 147p (-6p).

There were also 370 prime hoggs that sold to £122 and 223p to average 175.5p (+18p), while 413 prime lambs peaked at £124 and 260.9p to level at 228p (+26p).

The 452 cast sheep forward saw heavy ewes sell to £105 for Texels and average £85, while light ewes peaked at £79 for Cheviots and levelled at £49.

The firm also sold 12 prime heifers in Carlisle yesterday to a top of 224.5p and an average of 200.1p (-1.3p), while 36 prime, beef-bred bullocks peaked at 218.5p and levelled at 196.7p (+2.4p). Six prime, dairy-bred bullocks sold to 164.5p and averaged 149.8p (+6.3p). Thirty-one prime, beef-bred bulls sold to 225.5p and averaged 192.1p (-6.9p), while 52 prime, dairy-bred bulls peaked at 180.5p and levelled at 153.2p (-9.7p).

In the rough ring128 beef cows sold to 213.5p and averaged 144.3p (+11.3p), while 182 dairy cows peaked at 161.5p and levelled at 117.2p (+6.6p). Seventeen bulls sold to 179.5p and averaged 139.2p (+8.1p).

There were also 307 prime hoggs that sold to £122 and 233.3p to average 183.7p (-14.5p), while 207 prime lambs peaked at £114.80 and 273.3p to level at 234.3p (+19.3p).

A small show of 102 cast sheep saw heavy ewes sell to £119 for Texels and average £71.66, while light ewes peaked at £60.50 for Jacobs and levelled at £39.83.

Lawrie & Symington Ltd sold 24 prime heifers in Lanark yesterday to a top of 250p and an average of 230.2p (+5.1p), while 7 prime, beef-bred bullocks peaked at 246p and levelled at 226.8p (+7.4p). Thirteen prime, B&W bullocks sold to 158.5p and averaged 150.8p (+4.1p).

In the rough ring 48 beef cows averaged 134p (+5p) and 42 dairy cows levelled at 109p (+3p).

The firm also sold 1186 prime hoggs to a top of £135.50 and 250p to average 211.3p (+23.4p), while 91 prime lambs peaked at £136.50 and 303.3p to level at 258.7p (+42.9p).

The 366 cast sheep forward saw heavy ewes sell to £139.50 for Texels and average £78.72, while light ewes peaked at £79.50 for Cheviots and levelled at £49.93.
