United Auctions sold 3902 prime lambs at Stirling on Thursday to a top of £96 per head and 199p per kg to average 157p (+2.9p on the week).
The Cumberland and Dumfriesshire Farmers Mart sold 4890 prime lambs in Longtown on Thursday that included more heavier and well-fed types.
Top prices on the day were £95.50 and 197p, with the overall average levelling at 159.2p (+3.6p).
Another outstanding show of 9670 cast sheep met a sharper trade on the week. Heavy ewes sold to £126.50 for Texels and averaged £65.25, while light ewes peaked at £74.50 for Cheviots and levelled at £40.28. Rams sold to £134.50 for a Texel and averaged £74.22. John Swan Ltd had 1331 Charolais and continental cross cattle at its annual sale in St Boswells on Thursday.
Bullocks weighing up to 450kg averaged £794.85 or 195.2p, while those over 450kg levelled at £985.62 or 200.8p. The overall average for bullocks was 198.4p (+7.9p on the year).
Heifers levelled at £781.32 or 186.2p (+2p).
Messrs Craig Wilson Ltd sold 588 suckled calves at their annual show and sale at Ayr on Thursday.
The championship was awarded to Messrs Young, Tormichell, Girvan for a Limousin bullock that sold for £1900, or 633p per kg. The reserve went to a Charolais heifer shown by James Nisbet, Sorn Mains, Sorn that sold for £1100, or 372p.
The 343 bullocks were 20kg lighter on the year and averaged £700.60 or 233.9p (down £10.12 on the year but up 13.2p).
The 245 heifers were 4kg lighter on the year and levelled at £650.47 and 220.8p (+£30.91 and +13.2p).
Lawrie and Symington sold 573 Blackface shearling rams in Lanark on Thursday to a top of £20,000 for one off Messrs J Wight, Midlock. Ring 1 sold 305 to average £2010.79 (+£106.69 on the year), while Ring 2 sold 268 to level at £436.90 (-£124.86).
Midlock went on to top the sale of Blackface ram lambs at the same venue yesterday with one at £60,000. The 203 rams lambs averaged £2829.43, down £1830.43 on the year.
The Cumberland and Dumfriesshire Farmers Mart had 1432 store lambs and 275 breeding sheep forward in Dumfries on Friday that were a mixed show for quality. Top prices and averages for store lambs: Suffolks to £59.50 and averaged £46; Texels £62 and £50; NCC £58.50 and £49.39; Mules £52 and £43.74; Roussin £52 and £49.35; Hill Cheviots £51 and £37; Blackfaces £44.20 and £36.22.
