The Cumberland and Dumfriesshire Farmers Mart sold 129 store bullocks in Dumfries yesterday to a top of 260p per kg and an average of 221.6p (+11.1p on the previous sale), while 63 store heifers peaked at 254.5p and levelled at 208.1p (no change).

John Swan Ltd sold 33 prime bullocks in St Boswells yesterday to a top of 240p and an average of 220p (+3p), while 43 prime heifers peaked at 257p and levelled at 214p (no change). Three prime bulls sold to 130p and averaged 123.7p (no change).

In the rough ring 43 beef-type cows averaged 127.6p (-3p).

The firm also sold 1732 prime hoggs to a top of £107 per head and 222.7p per kg to average 194.7p (-0.5p).

The 898 cast sheep forward saw heavy ewes sell to £109 for Texels and average £63.78, while light ewes peaked at £81 for Cheviots and levelled at £56.34. Harrison & Hetherington Ltd sold 11 prime heifers in Carlisle yesterday to a top of 233.5p and an average of 204.2p (-1.6p), while 32 prime bullocks peaked at 229.5p and levelled at 195.7p (-9.4p).

Thirty-three prime, beef-bred bulls sold to 227.5p and averaged 182.1p (-4.1p), while 55 prime, dairy-bred bulls peaked at 169.5p and levelled at 135.8p (-1.1p).

In the rough ring 151 beef cows averaged 135p (-0.4p) and 153 dairy cows levelled at 108.6p (-0.7p). Two bulls averaged 118p (+3.7p).

The firm also sold 1403 prime hoggs to a top of £111.80 and 279.5p to average 199p (+1p).

The 148 cast sheep forward saw ewes sell to £97.50 for Texels and £63.50 for Hill Cheviots.

Messrs Craig Wilson Ltd had 1531 prime hoggs presented at Ayr yesterday that met a similar trade on the week, although the final average was slightly depressed due to a larger show of Blackfaces.

Top prices on the day were £99 and 218.6p with the overall average levelling at 190.1p (-1.4p).

There were also 776 cast sheep forward when all classes were £2-£3 dearer on the week.

The 728 ewes sold to £117 for a pen of Texels, while Blackfaces peaked at £58.

The 48 rams met the dearest trade seen so far this season and sold to £109 for a Texel.

Lawrie & Symington Ltd sold 23 prime heifers in Lanark yesterday to a top of 244p and an average of 220.4p (-6.4p), while 16 prime, beef-bred bullocks peaked at 235p and levelled at 203.6p (-7.5p).

Twenty-five prime, B&W bullocks sold to 175.5p and averaged 148.3p.

In the rough ring 28 beef cows averaged 128p (no change) and 20 dairy cows levelled at 93p (+1p).

The firm also sold 2196 prime hoggs to a top of £102.50 and 237.2p to average 200.4p (-5.6p).

The 495 cast sheep forward saw ewes sell to £114.50 for Texels and £58.50 for Blackfaces with the overall average levelling at £53.46.
