Copa calls for help measures amid volatility

the umbrella organisation for Europe's farming unions, Copa-Cogeca, has called for stronger, more efficient measures to manage markets and help farmers to deal with increasing price volatility.

Copa President Gerd Sonnleitner warned new President-in-Office, Mr Sofoclis Aletrasis, the Cypriot Farm Minister, at a meeting in Brussels on Monday: "The level of current safety nets has not changed for over a decade. It is crucial that market management measures enable producers to cope during periods of low market prices and/or rapid increases in costs.
