Top prices and averages for ewe lambs: Blackfaces to £70 and averaged £52.50 for 79 (-£12.50 on the year); Texels £77 and £71.50 for 50 (-£1.50); Scotch Mules £98 and £86.78 for 131 (-£5.97 on the last sale).

Store lambs: Cheviots £58 and £50.96 for 205; Suffolks £58 and £54.89 for 83; Texels £55 and £51.04 for 109; Blackfaces £46.50 and £42.24 for 82; Mules £57.20 and £49.85 for 79; Lleyns £51.50 and £46.81 for 73.

The firm went on to sell 2,252 prime lambs at Ayr yesterday to a top of £84 per head and 175.1p per kg to average 145.7p (-4.3p on the week).

There were also 786 cast sheep forward that were £2-£3 cheaper on the week with ewes selling to £108.50 for a pen of Texels and £63 for Blackfaces.

Harrison & Hetherington Ltd sold 21 prime heifers in Carlisle yesterday to a top of 241p per kg and an average of 200p (-0.8p on the week), while 18 prime, beef-bred bullocks peaked at 224p and levelled at 199.8p (+14.4p). Four prime, B&W bullocks sold to 177p and averaged 165p (+33.4p).

Forty-three prime, b­eef-bred bulls sold to 223.5p and averaged 184.6p (+1.4p), while 53 prime, dairy-bred bulls peaked at 177.5p and levelled at 149p (+4.3p).

In the rough ring 72 beef cows averaged 125.7p (-1.5p) and 153 dairy cows levelled at 94p (+1.9p). Three bulls averaged 112.2p (+2.8p).

The firm also sold 2,619 prime lambs to £96.80 and 242.3p to average 157.7p (-11.2p).

The 246 cast sheep forward saw ewes sell to £100 for Texels and £87.50 for Hill Cheviots.

John Swan Ltd sold 39 prime heifers in St Boswells yesterday to a top of 249p and an average of 216p (-1p), while 45 prime bullocks peaked at 239p and levelled at 217.1p (-0.4p).

In the rough ring, 63 beef-type cattle averaged 133.9p (+5.7p).

The firm also sold 1,909 prime lambs to £88 and 195p to average 153p (-7p).

The 770 cast sheep forward saw ewes sell to £117 for Charollais and £67 for Lleyn, with the overall average levelling at £61.92.

Lawrie & Symington Ltd sold 17 prime heifers in Lanark yesterday to a top of 252p and an average of 228.6p (-0.4p), while 10 prime, beef-bred bullocks peaked at 209.5p and levelled at 202.5p (+0.1p). Six prime, B&W bullocks sold to 156p and averaged 149.8p (+6.4p).

In the rough ring, 35 beef cows averaged 126p (-11p) and 19 dairy cows levelled at 86p (-3p). Eleven OTM cattle averaged 114p (+27p).

The firm also sold 1779 prime lambs to £85.50 and 181.9p to average 150.5p (-4.4p).

The 678 cast sheep forward saw ewes sell to £118.50 for Texels and £63.50 for Blackfaces to average £52.90 overall.
