Lawrie & Symington Ltd sold 21 prime heifers in Lanark on Monday to a top of 246p per kg and an average of 227.1p, while 12 prime, beef-bred bullocks peaked at 241p and levelled at 214.4p.

In the rough ring 17 beef cows averaged 121.4p and 53 dairy cows levelled at 83.2p. Five bulls averaged 95p and 13 clean, OTM cattle levelled at 134p.

The firm also had 514 prime lambs forward for its Christmas show and sale when the championship was awarded to Robert Hamilton, Mid Shawtonhill, Strathven for a pen of three Beltex that scaled 45kg each and sold for £185 per head. The reserve ticket went to R&M Struthers, Collielaw for a pen of three TexelXs that weighed 44kg and went on to fetch £118. At the end of the day's selling the overall average for the 2818 prime lambs sold, including the show lambs, levelled at 190.3p (+12.1p on the week).

The 484 cast sheep forward saw ewes sell to £137.50 for Texels and £77.50 for Blackfaces, with the overall average levelling at £64.92 (-£3.07).

Wallets Marts held their Christmas show and sale in Castle Douglas yesterday when there were 28 pens of lambs to be judged. The championship was awarded to Gail Paterson, Mossnae for a pen of 3 Beltex that weighed 50kg each and sold for £160 per head (320p/kg), while the reserve ticket went to Douganhill Farm for 3 TexelXs that scaled 47kg and fetched £100. The 2155 prime lambs on offer, including the show lambs, averaged 193.2p (+15.5p).

There were also 205 cast sheep forward when ewes sold to £113 for Texels and £64.50 for Blackfaces.
