Messrs Craig Wilson Ltd sold 9 prime heifers at Ayr yesterday to a top of £1396.50 per head and 219p per kg to average £1247.08 and 214p, while 7 prime, beef-bred bullocks peaked at £1386.90 and 225p to level at £1303.89 and 204.6p.

Six prime, B&W bullocks sold to £1014.30 and 168p to average £979.75 and 156.5p, while 5 prime bulls peaked at £1256.70 and 196p to level at £1059.04 and 189.4p.

In the rough ring 71 beef cows averaged 123.4p and 175 dairy cows levelled at 90.5p. Sixteen bulls averaged 118.7p and 12 clean OTM cattle levelled at 150.9p.

The firm also had 38 dairy cattle forward at their January show and sale, when all classes proved harder to cash with plainer sorts much cheaper.

The championship was awarded to Messrs Hunter, West Tarbrax for a red & white, calved-heifer that sold for 2150gns. Averages: Pedigree heifers £1577.10 (1502gns) for 20; pedigree bulls £1295 (1233gns for 6; commercial dairy £1110.83 for 12.

Wallets Marts sold 1296 prime hoggs in Castle Douglas yesterday to a top of £101 per head and 228.8p per kg to average 187.9p (+4p on the week).

There were also 363 cast sheep forward when ewes sold to £123 for Texels and £84 for Blackfaces.
