Messrs Craig Wilson Ltd sold 17 prime heifers at Ayr yesterday to a top of £1401.20 per head and 232p per kg to average £1235.25 and 218.6p, while 5 prime bullocks peaked at £1172.15 and 205p to level at £1088.55 and 194p.

Trade in the rough ring was firmer on the week for all classes of cows. Forty-one beef cows averaged 138.5p (+1.7p on the week) and 126 dairy cows levelled at 108.7p 9+4.3p). Nine bulls averaged 134.8p and 16 clean OTM cattle levelled at 152.1p.

A small show of 8 dairy cattle were sharper on the week, selling to a top of £1820 for a Holstein Friesian heifer and averaging £1523 (+£28).

Wallets Marts sold 1200 prime hoggs in Castle Douglas yesterday to a top of £96.50 per head and 233.3p per kg to average 189.1p (-1.8p).

The firm also had 435 cast sheep forward when ewes sold to £122 for Suffolks, £98 for Mules and £88 for Blackfaces.
