Lawrie & Symington Ltd sold 17 prime heifers in Lanark on Monday to a top of 250p per kg and an average of 239.5p (+4.1p on the week), while 7 prime, beef-bred bullocks peaked at 240p and levelled at 210.8p (-4.8p).

Twenty-nine prime, B&W bullocks sold to 166.5p and averaged 146p (+3.4p).

In the rough ring 32 beef cows averaged 135.1p (+3p) and 60 dairy cows levelled at 109.1p (+1.4p).

The firm also sold 1994 prime hoggs to a top of £103.50 per head and 219.7p per kg to average 192.3p (+2.5p).

The 430 cast sheep forward saw ewes sell to £156.50 for Texels and average £80.79 overall (+£2.49).

Ten dairy cattle sold to £1720 for a Holstein Friesian heifer and averaged £1411.10 (-£11.90).

Messrs Craig Wilson Ltd sold 15 prime heifers at Ayr yesterday to a top of £1310.80 per head and 236p per kg to average £1195.67 and 218.1p, while a prime bullock fetched £926.10 or 189p. Four prime young bulls sold to £1093.75 and 184p to average £1063.93 and 178.4p.

In the rough ring 52 beef cows averaged 135.8p and 123 dairy cows levelled at 107.9p. Eleven bulls averaged 132.9p and 28 clean OTM cattle levelled at 158.8p.

The firm also had 38 beef-breeding cattle forward that met a similar trade to the last sale despite being a plainer show for quality. Top prices and averages: Heifers with calf-at-foot to £1780 and averaged £1446 for 5; cows and calves £1800 and £1570 for 8; in-calf heifers £1350 and £1108.50 for 12; bulling heifers £1180 and £1034.28 for 14.

A much plainer show of 10 dairy cattle sold to £1750 for a Holstein Friesian heifer and averaged £1391 (-£132 on the week).
