The Cumberland and Dumfriesshire Farmers Mart sold 150 store heifers in Dumfries on Monday to a top of 265.7p per kg and an average of 212p, while 196 store bullocks peaked at 291.2p and levelled at 226.4p.

Fourteen store bulls sold to 218.2p and averaged 210.6p.

Messrs Craig Wilson Ltd sold 10 prime heifers at Ayr yesterday to a top of £1305.15 per head and 231p per kg to average £1218.30 and 216p, while two prime bullocks sold to £1269 and 235p to level at £1219.70 and 221.8p.

In the rough ring 33 beef cows averaged 133p and 89 dairy cows levelled at 102.9p. Nine bulls averaged 138.5p and 18 clean OTM cattle levelled at 159.2p.

The firm also sold 8 dairy cattle to a top of £1800 for a Holstein Friesian heifer and an average of £1258.

Wallets Marts sold 724 prime hoggs in Castle Douglas yesterday to a top of £88 per head and 224.4p per kg to average 189.7p (-5.6p on the week).

A small show of 158 cast sheep saw ewes sell to £142 for Texels, £100 for Mules and £82 for Blackfaces.
