Wallets Marts sold 268 prime hoggs in Castle Douglas yesterday to a top of £134 per head and 260.7p per kg to average 167.6p (+6.2p on the week), while 29 prime lambs peaked at £90 and 204.2p to level at 204p.

A small show of 59 cast sheep sold to £142 for a Texel ram, while ewes also peaked at £142 for Beltex with Mules selling to £101 and Blackfaces to £86.

Messrs Craig Wilson sold 9 prime heifers at Ayr yesterday to a top of £1254.30 per head and 228p per kg to average £1193.34 and 211.4p.

In the rough ring 73 beef cows averaged 136.8p and 113 dairy cows levelled at 106.8p. Six bulls averaged 117.2p and 34 clean OTM cattle levelled at 151.3p.

The firm also had a small show of commercial dairy cattle. With quality in short supply the top price for the three that were forward was £1800 for a B&W calved-heifer and the average £1173.

In the pedigree section the champion animal in the yard was a calved-heifer off Tannockhill that fetched 1750gns, with five females levelling at £1415.40.
