Market round-up

The Cumberland and Dumfriesshire Farmers Mart sold 99 store heifers in Dumfries on Monday to a top of 258.7p per kg and an average of 224.1p (+1.9p on the previous sale), while 128 store, beef-bred bullocks peaked at 262p and levelled at 218.6p (-13p). Twenty-seven store, B&W bullocks sold to 191.9p and averaged 166p (-6.1p), while 10 store bulls peaked at 245.6p and levelled at 222.1p (+15.1p).

Harrison & Hetherington Ltd sold 71 store heifers in Lockerbie yesterday to a top of 227p and an average of 198p (-2.8p), while 32 store bullocks peaked at 244.1p and levelled at 216.6p (-10.9p). One-hundred-and-ten store bulls sold to 180.7p and averaged 156.7p.

Wallets Marts had a tidy-up show of 134 prime hoggs at their weekly sale in Castle Douglas yesterday that sold to a top of £87 per head and 177p per kg to average 149p (-18.6p), while 107 prime lambs peaked at £94 and 202.4p to level at 189.6p (-14.4p).

A small show of 123 cast sheep sold to £129 for a Suffolk ram, while ewes peaked at £125, also for Suffolks, £93 for Mules and £80 for Blackfaces.
