Messrs Craig Wilson Ltd sold 224 store heifers at Ayr on Thursday to a top of £1240 per head and 237.1p per kg to average £868.68 and 208.3p, while 307 store, beef-bred bullocks peaked at £1370 and 245.4p to level at £978.06 and 215.6p.

Eighty-one store, B&W bullocks sold to £980 and 177.8p to average £794.24 and 150.3p. The firm also had 1306 store lambs forward. Top prices: Texels sold to £67, Suffolks £62, Cheviots £60, Mules and Blackfaces £50, with the overall average levelling at £50.54 (-£2.84 on the week). The Cumberland and Dumfriesshire Farmers Mart sold 3957 prime lambs in Longtown on Thursday to a top of £94 per head and 231p per kg to average 160.4p (+5.4p on the week).

Another large show of 6397 cast sheep saw heavy ewes sell to £125 for Texels and average £70.46 (-90p), while light ewes peaked at £78 for Cheviots and levelled at £44.03 (+£1.32). Rams sold to £220 for a Millenium Blue and averaged £71.01 (-£24.16).
