WALLETS Mart had 55 store cattle forward in Castle Douglas yesterday when heifers sold to £954 per head and 225 pence per kilogramme to average £701.97 and 189.8p, while bullocks peaked at £830 and 249p to level at £763.16 and 219p.
In the rough ring, 66 OTM cattle averaged 94.7p.
John Swan Ltd sold 58 prime heifers in St Boswells yesterday to a top of 255p and an average of 222p (+2.8p on the week). Meanwhile, the 32 prime bullocks peaked at 246p and levelled at 219.5p (+3.4p). In the rough ring, 91 beef-type OTM cattle averaged 118.4p (+10.1p).
The firm also sold 3,239 prime lambs to a top of £94.50 per head and 227p per kg to average 180p (+2p).
The 709 cast sheep forward saw ewes sell to £117 for Texels and £70.50 for Lleyns and average £64.16 overall (+£9.71).
Messrs Craig Wilson Ltd sold 1,904 prime lambs at Ayr yesterday to a top of £87 and 200p to average 171.8p (-1.3p).
The 497 cast sheep forward were again easy to cash with ewes selling to £117 for Texels and £72 for Blackfaces.
Harrison & Hetherington Ltd sold 13 prime heifers in Carlisle yesterday to a top of 223.5p and an average of 204.1p (+24p), while 24 prime bullocks peaked at 224.5p and levelled at 209.1p (+16.9p).
Fifty-one prime, beef-bred bulls sold to 221.5p and averaged 181.6p (-7.2p), while 70 prime, dairy-bred bulls peaked at 176.5p and levelled at 147.9p (-0.4p).
In the rough ring, 138 beef cows averaged 118.8p (-0.8p) and 209 dairy cows levelled at 89.1p (+1.2p).
The six bulls averaged 115.7p (+8.1p).
The firm also sold 3,414 prime lambs to a top of £114.80 and 291.4p to average 178.2p (-7.6p).
The 246 cast sheep forward saw ewes sell to £98.50 for Texels and £45.50 for Swaledales.
Lawrie & Symington Ltd sold 25 prime heifers in Lanark yesterday to a top of 256p and an average of 227.1p (+5.2p).
Meanwhile, the eight prime, beef-bred bullocks peaked at 229p and then levelled at 214.5p (+4.2p).
The six prime, B&W bullocks sold to 156.5p and averaged 140.7p (-6.2p).
In the rough ring, 32 beef cows averaged 113.1p (-7.1p) and 55 dairy cows levelled at 90.2p (-4.2p).
Two bulls averaged 98p and 18 clean OTM cattle levelled at 139.8p (-0.2p). The firm also sold 2,524 prime lambs to a top price of £87 and 200p to average 173.8p (-2.1p).
The 670 cast sheep forward saw ewes sell to £130.50 for a Texel and £67.50 for Blackfaces, with the overall average levelling at £62.77 (-£4.72).
The six dairy cattle sold to £1,820 for a Holstein Friesian heifer and then averaged at £1,584.
