John Swan Ltd sold 34 prime heifers in St Boswells yesterday to a top of 253p per kg and an average of 227.3p (+10.3p on the week), while 38 prime bullocks peaked at 260p and levelled at 220.3p (+1.8p).
Three young bulls sold to 214p and averaged 156.9p (+14.6p).
In the rough ring 94 beef-type OTM cattle averaged 118p (n/c on the week).
The firm also sold 2146 prime lambs to a top of £87.50 per head and 200p per kg to average 156.7p (+3.7p).
The 855 cast sheep forward saw ewes sell to £100 for Texels and £70 for Cheviots to average £51.23 overall.
Messrs Craig Wilson Ltd sold 2374 prime lambs at Ayr yesterday to a top of £74 and 164.5p to average 145p (-3.2p). The auctioneers report that their main problem was that heavier lambs are hard to cash and 70% of the offering scaled 44kg and above.
The 1000 cast sheep forward saw ewes sell to £117 for a pen of Texels and £62.50 for Blackfaces, while rams peaked at £109 for a Suffolk.
Harrison & Hetherington Ltd sold 7 prime heifers in Carlisle yesterday to a top of 196.5p and an average of 187.8p (-22p), while 21 prime, beef-bred bullocks peaked at 225.5p and levelled at 193.7p (-10.3p). Two prime, dairy-bred bullocks averaged 148.5p (-16p).
Forty prime, beef-bred bulls sold to 210p and averaged 172.3p (-17.5p), while 37 prime, dairy-bred bulls peaked at 169.5p and levelled at 149.5p (-4p).
In the rough ring 114 beef cows averaged 125.3p (-0.6p) and 196 dairy cows levelled at 86.4p (-10.4p). Eleven cast bulls averaged 106.7p (-0.7p).
The firm also sold 2566 prime lambs to £114.80 and 287p to average 159.6p (-5.9p).
The 289 cast sheep forward saw ewes sell to £97.50 for Beltex and £85.50 for Cheviot Mules.
Lawrie & Symington sold 13 prime heifers in Lanark yesterday to a top of 254p and an average of 220p (-4p), while 7 prime, beef-bred bullocks peaked at 248p and levelled at 203p (-4p). Fourteen prime, B&W bullocks sold to 157p and averaged 132p (-9p).
In the rough ring 14 beef cows averaged 117p (+3p) and 17 dairy cows levelled at 81p (-10p). Ten clean, OTM cattle averaged 120p (+29p).
The firm also sold 2566 prime lambs to £87.50 and 193.3p to average 151.6p (+2.6p).
The 873 cast sheep forward saw ewes sell to £117.50 for a Texel and £65.50 for Blackfaces to average £55.39 overall (+£3.14).
