Messrs Craig Wilson Ltd had a plainer show of 1940 prime lambs at Ayr yesterday that sold to a top of £90 per head and 200.1p per kilogramme to average 162.7p (-3.8p on the week).
There were 670 cast sheep forward when all classes met a similar trade to last week with ewes selling to £116 for a pen of Texels and £75.50 for Blackfaces, while rams sold to £106 for a pen of Texels.
John Swan Ltd sold 40 prime heifers in St Boswells yesterday to a top of 237p per kg and an average of 214.9p (+6.4p), while 34 prime bullocks peaked at 240p and levelled at 206.6p (+0.4p). In the rough ring, 54 beef-type cattle averaged 117.9p.
The firm also sold 2086 prime lambs to a top of £90 and 188p to average 168p (-5p). The 575 cast sheep forward saw ewes sell to £121 for Texels and average £66.27.
Harrison & Hetherington Ltd sold 17 prime heifers in Carlisle yesterday to a top of 224.5p and an average of 191.8p (+1.7p), while 53 prime, beef-bred bullocks peaked at 228.5p and levelled at 191.4p (+1.6p). Eight prime, dairy-bred bullocks sold to 173.5p and averaged 152.7p.
Seventy prime, beef-bred bulls sold to 211.5p and averaged 174.6p (+0.2p), while 63 prime, dairy-bred bulls peaked at 176.5p and levelled at 135.9p (-7p).
In the rough ring, 86 beef cows averaged 130.9p (-3p) and 184 dairy cows levelled at 95.2p (-4.2p). Five bulls averaged 123.6p (+18.1p).
There were also 1801 prime lambs that sold to £100.80 and 252p to average 177.5p (+3.4p). The 140 cast sheep forward saw ewes sell to £103.50 for Texels and £77.50 for Hill Cheviots.
Lawrie & Symington Ltd sold 15 prime heifers in Lanark yesterday to a top of 240p and an average of 219.5p (-9.2p), while 12 prime, beef-bred bullocks peaked at 228p and levelled at 201.8p (-5.2p). Twelve prime, B&W bullocks sold to 159.5p and averaged 150.6p (+9.1p). In the rough ring, 48 beef cows averaged 120p (-12p) and 22 dairy cows levelled at 86p (no change on the week). Thirteen OTM cattle averaged 106p (-7p).
The firm also sold 2291 prime lambs to a top of £89 and 202.3p to average 166.6p (-3.5p). The 998 cast sheep forward saw ewes sell to £121.50 for Texels and £76.50 for Blackfaces, with the average at £55.50 (-£15.70).
