Lawrie & Symington Ltd sold 21 prime heifers in Lanark on Monday to a top of 248p per kg and an average of 227.1p, while 14 prime, beef-bred bullocks peaked at 230p and levelled at 208.5p.

Five prime, B&W bullocks sold to 162.5p and averaged 161.2p.

In the rough ring 41 beef cows averaged 131.7p and 35 dairy cows levelled at 88p. Twelve clean OTM cattle averaged 145.2p.

The firm also sold 1644 prime hoggs to a top of £97 per head and 216.7p per kg to average 186.5p (-0.3p).

The 455 cast sheep forward saw ewes sell to £164.50 for a Texel and £91.50 for Blackfaces to average £83.84 overall (+£9.39).

Messrs Craig Wilson Ltd sold 6 prime heifers at Ayr yesterday to a top of £1152.60 per head and 226p per kg to average £1076.73 and 212.7p, while 2 prime, beef-bred bullocks peaked at £1303.40 and 196p to level at £1245.18 and 194.6p. Three prime, B&W bullocks sold to £1157.10 and 177p to average £1115.82 and 174.3p.

In the rough ring 47 beef cows averaged 123.1p and 104 dairy cows levelled at 82.4p. Five bulls averaged 159p and 12 clean OTM cattle levelled at 161.8p.

A small show of 13 dairy cattle sold to £1900 for a Holstein Friesian heifer and averaged £1389.

The firm also had 40 beef-breeding cattle forward. Top prices and averages: Heifers with calf-at-foot to £2000 and averaged £1684.44 for 9; cows and calves £1620 and £1193.33 for 3; in-calf cows £1500 and £1117.50 for 12; bulling heifers £1090 and £1000.72 for 14.

Wallets Marts sold 1282 prime hoggs in Castle Douglas yesterday to a top of £97 and 213.2p to average 183.9p (+3.2p).

The 287 cast sheep met a flying trade with ewes selling to £114 for Texels and £85 for Blackfaces.
