Lawrie & Symington Ltd sold 5,871 Blackface ewe and wether lambs at their annual sale in Lanark on Wednesday.

Top price and centre record was £1,250 per head for a pen of 6 Blackface ewe lambs from Hugh and Alan Blackwood, Auldhouseburn. The final average for the 5,564 ewe lambs was £78.79 compared with £82.89 for 4,272 in 2013, a drop of £4.10 on the year with 1,292 more animals sold.The 387 Blackface wethers sold to £53 and averaged £41.59.

United Auctions sold 609 store heifers at Stirling on Wednesday to a top of 246.7p per kg and an average of 212.1p (-3.4p on the week), while 712 store, beef-bred bullocks peaked at 257.6p and levelled at 227.3p (+1.9p). Also sold were 199 store, B&W bullocks reaching 167.3p and averaging 147p (-0.1p), while 44 store bulls peaked at 253.9p and levelled at 156.1p.

The firm also had 8,432 store lambs forward. Top prices and averages: Texels £64 and £57.44 (+£1.46); Suffolks to £73 and averaged £59.16 (+£1.28 on the week); Mules £53 and £47.81 (-£2.26); Beltex £56 (+33p); Cheviots £58.50 and £52.43 (-£2.32); Blackfaces £52.50 and £41.57 (-£2.83).
