Lawrie & Symington held their first show and sale of suckled calves in Lanark on Tuesday.

The overall championship went to a British BlueX bullock from A&J Struthers, Greenbank Farm, Carluke that scaled 588kg and sold for £1,380, while the reserve went to a 494kg LimousinX heifer from T Laird & Son, Sunnyside Carbello, Cumnock that went on to fetch £1,310.

There were 893 heifers that sold to 321.7p per kg and averaged 227.9p, while 1,084 bullocks peaked at 286.1p and levelled at 236.1p.

Messrs Craig Wilson Ltd sold 1,451 prime lambs in Newton Stewart yesterday to a top of £75 per head and 192.3p per kg to average 152.3p (-2.5p on the week).

There were also 524 cast sheep forward when ewes sold to £78.50 for Mules and £74 for Blackfaces.

The Cumberland and Dumfriesshire Farmers Mart had 26 prime cattle forward at their weekly sale in Dumfries yesterday when heifers sold to 231.5p and averaged 218.6p, while bullocks peaked at 219.5p and levelled at 216.5p.

There were 121 OTM cattle presented in the rough ring when beef cows averaged 125.1p and dairy cows levelled at 91.2p.

The firm also sold 1,142 prime lambs to £75 and 190p to average 153.4p (-0.6p).

The 434 cast sheep forward saw heavy ewes sell to £87.50 for Half-breds and average £63.28 (+£4.39).

Meanwhile light ewes peaked at £57.50 for Blackfaces and levelled at £37.77 (+£1.62).
