MESSRS Craig Wilson Ltd sold a total of 28 prime heifers at Ayr yesterday to a top of 220 pence per kilogramme and an average of 202.7p.

Meanwhile the nine prime bullocks in the sale peaked at 208p and levelled at 197.8p.

In the rough ring the 91 beef cows averaged 121.6p and 81 dairy cows levelled at 92.7p. Eight bulls averaged 114.1p and the 27 clean cattle levelled at a price of 159.1p.

Another large show comprising 27 dairy cattle sold to £2,000 for a Holstein Friesian heifer and averaged at £1,528.

Separately, Wallets Marts sold 1,324 prime lambs in Castle Douglas yesterday to a top of £85.50 per head and 197.6p per kilo to average 170.3p (+9.9p on the week). There were also 237 cast sheep forward when ewes sold to £106 for Texels and £58.50 for Blackfaces, with the overall average levelling at £54.29 (no change).

Lawrie & Symington sold 105 store heifers in Lanark yesterday to a top of 223.5p and at a final average of 199.7p. Meanwhile the 100 store, beef-bred bullocks peaked at 223.5p and levelled at 201.3p.

Forty-three store, dairy-bred bullocks sold to 167.4p and averaged 136p.

As well as that a small show of 512 store lambs sold to £67 for Beltex, £61 for Texels and £56 for Suffolks, with the overall average levelling at £56.23.
