MESSRS Craig Wilson Ltd sold 2,168 prime lambs at Ayr on Monday to a top of £85 per head and 180.5p per kg to average 146.8p (+1.3p on the week).

There were also 979 cast sheep forward when Blackface ewes met a similar trade to last week, while heavy ewes were £5 dearer. Top price for ewes was £110 for a pen of Texels, while Blackfaces sold to £70.

The firm went on to sell 18 prime heifers at the same venue yesterday to a top of £1,198.80 per head and 221p per kg to average £1,115.98 and 207.9p, while 10 prime bullocks peaked at £1414.80 and 216p to level at £1136.93 and 195.3p.

In the rough ring, 94 beef cows averaged 125.4p and 134 dairy cows levelled at 96.6p. Twelve bulls averaged 109.9p and 18 clean OTM cattle levelled at 157.2p.

There were also 19 dairy cattle that sold to £2,300 for a Holstein Friesian and averaged £1,584.

Wallets Marts sold 1,487 prime lambs in Castle Douglas yesterday to a top of £75.50 and 172.6p to average 151.8p (+2.5p).

The 523 cast sheep forward sold to £104 for Texel ewes.
