Lawrie and Symington sold 18 prime heifers in Lanark on Monday to a top of 234p per kg and an average of 213.5p (+5.3p on the week), while 20 prime beef-bullocks peaked at 222p and levelled at 199.8p (-13.2p).
The firm also sold seven prime B&W bullocks to average 164.5p (-8.3p).
In the rough ring 36 beef cows averaged 146p, while 38 dairy cows levelled at 118p. There were 14 OTM cattle that averaged 143p.
In the sheep ring the 2816 prime hoggs were a mixed show for quality, with a higher proportion of heavy types. Top prices were £116.50 per head and 245.5p per kg with the average levelling at 194.5p (-5.5p).
The 465 cast sheep forward saw ewes sell to £139.50 for Texels and £83.50 for Blackfaces to level at £75.56 (+£1).
The firm also held its fortnightly sale of dairy cattle when the 20 to go through the ring peaked at £2080 for a Holstein heifer and averaged £1511 (-£152 on the previous sale).
Messrs Craig Wilson Ltd sold 2135 prime hoggs at Ayr to a top of £109 per head and 228.8p per kg to average 196.7p (+3.3p).
The 378 cast sheep forward saw all classes sharper on the week with heavy ewes selling to £153 for Texels and averaging £80.14, while light ewes peaked at £85 for Blackfaces and levelled at £57.43.
The firm went on to sell 20 prime heifers at the same venue yesterday to a top of 222p and an average of 206.3p, while 12 prime beef bullocks peaked at 215p and levelled at 195.4p.
There was also a prime B&W bullock that fetched 161.5p, while five young bulls peaked at 207.5p and levelled at 183.7p.
Over in the rough ring a larger show of 220 cattle met a dearer trade with 72 beef cows averaging 146.9p, while 133 dairy cows levelled at 118.6p. Fifteen bulls averaged 136.3p.
The firm also had 44 dairy cattle that included the final portion of 20 of the "Bencloigh" herd dispersal that sold to 2400gns for a calved cow and also a calved heifer and averaged 1533gns overall. The general sale of 24 dairy cattle was a plainer show for quality that met a similar trade on the week. B&W heifers in-milk sold to £2000 (x2), £1900 and £1800, while Ayrshire calved-heifers peaked at £1880, £1720 and £1700.
Wallets Marts had a larger show of 1828 prime hoggs at their sale in Castle Douglas yesterday that sold to £105 per head and 256p per kg to average 204.6p.
The firm also sold 447 cast sheep to a top of £124 for Texel rams, while ewes peaked at £122 for Texels, £100 Mules and £76 for Blackfaces. The overall average levelled at £69.60.
