The Cumberland and Dumfriesshire Farmers Mart sold 3080 prime lambs in Longtown on Thursday to a top of £103 per head and 234.1p per kg to average 193p (+11p on the week).

A much larger show of 5058 cast sheep saw heavy ewes sell to a top of £135 for Texels and ­average £80.92 (-£3.12), while light ewes peaked at £84 for Lleyns and levelled at £43.17 (-£1). Rams sold to £155 for a Charollais and averaged £88.49 (+£6.98).

Messrs Craig Wilson Ltd sold 102 store heifers at Ayr on ­Tuesday to a top of £1090 per head and 229.1p per kg to average £851.86 and 203.6p, while 155 store, beef-bred bullocks peaked at £1350 and 261.8p to level at £910.61 and 212.5p.

Twenty store, B&W bullocks sold to £955 and £156.6p to average £555.79 and 130.7p.
