John Swan Ltd sold 75 prime heifers in St Boswells yesterday to a top of 241p and an average of 201.1p (-19.3p on the week), while 48 prime bullocks peaked at 233p and levelled at 202.9p (-18.2p). Eight prime bulls sold to 176p and averaged 126.9p.

In the rough ring 87 beef-type cattle averaged 121.6p (-10.4p).

The firm also sold 1562 prime hoggs to a top of £112 per head and 238.1p per kg to average 207.8p (-4.1p), while 35 prime lambs peaked at £120 and 271.8p to level at 250.6p (+1p).

The 573 cast sheep forward saw heavy ewes sell to £120 for a Suffolk and average £88.88 (-£8.70), while light ewes peaked at £99 for Cheviots and levelled at £67.66 (-£7.79). Harrison & Hetherington Ltd sold 24 prime heifers in Carlisle yesterday to a top of 233.5p and an average of 178.9p (-7.4p), while 40 prime bullocks peaked at 231.5p and levelled at 181.7p (-22.1p). Forty-six prime, beef-bred bulls sold to 216.5p and averaged 172.6p (-16.6p), while 56 prime, dairy-bred bulls peaked at 158.5p and levelled at 117p (-37.9p).

In the rough ring 123 beef cows averaged 137.9p (-2.7p) and 94 dairy cows levelled at 106.2p (-3.7p).

The firm also sold 1398 prime hoggs to a top of £120.80 and 282.9p to average 201.7p (-12.4p), while 29 prime lambs peaked at £130.80 and 290.7p to level at 246.2p (+11p).

The 96 cast sheep forward saw ewes sell to £117.50 for a Suffolk.

Messrs Craig Wilson Ltd sold 1330 prime hoggs at Ayr yesterday to a top of £110 and 234.6p to average 201.4p (-12.3p), while 22 prime lambs peaked at £120 and 266.7p to level at 253.6p (+2.6p).

There were also 361 cast sheep forward when all classes met a similar trade to last week. Ewes sold to £141 for a pen of Texels and £77 for Blackfaces, while rams peaked at £145 for a pen of Texels.

Lawrie & Symington Ltd sold 14 prime heifers in Lanark yesterday to a top of 253p and an average of 221.3p (+0.8p), while five prime, beef-bred bullocks peaked at 230p and levelled at 206.4p (+11.9p). Eight prime, B&W bullocks sold to 144p and averaged 137.8p (-14p).

In the rough ring 29 beef cows averaged 128p (-8p) and 25 dairy cows levelled at 102p (-3p). Eight OTM cattle averaged 95p (-30p).

The firm also sold 2,372 prime hoggs to a top of £119.50 and 291.5p to average 213.8p (-2.4p), while 18 prime lambs peaked at £116.50 and 258.9p to level at 235.9p.

The 492 cast sheep forward saw ewes sell to £138.50 for Texels and £78.50 for Blackfaces with the overall average levelling at £75.34 (-£7.30).
