Weather hits Highland Show figures Conference to discuss roots to future Market round-up

Organisers of this year's Royal Highland Show have been putting a brave face on attendance figures that had plummeted by nearly 22,000 on the year, representing a loss of more than £500,000 in ticket sales.

The exact figure for the show's four-day run, which ended on Sunday was 161,242, compared to 182,984 last year.

Torrential rain led to vehicles having to be towed out of waterlogged car parks, and tailbacks of traffic at the weekend as cars were diverted to alternative parking at nearby Royal Bank of Scotland headquarters and Edinburgh airport.
