Agency aims to reform system for bankruptcy

Plans to create a Financial Health Service with more rights for creditors are launched this week by the Accountant in Bankruptcy (AiB), as it fights swingeing budget cuts with a reform agenda for Scotland's bankruptcy regime.

The AiB, the Government agency that oversees bankruptcies and is the trustee of last resort, is consulting on business-friendly reforms of a system dating back almost 200 years to the first bankruptcy act.

It says a "new vision and ambition" are needed to overhaul bankruptcy in Scotland, as the AiB faces a 40% budget cut this year on top of a 37% cut last year.
