AROUND 20,000 people are expected to pack Glasgow's shopping thoroughfares for the first Style Mile Christmas Carnival.

The event, launched yesterday and taking place on November 23 between 12.30pm and 4pm, will see Santa on a horse-drawn dray moving between St Enoch Centre and Buchanan Street.

There will also be around 400 performers from across the city including dancers, drum groups, street artists and pipe bands. The proceedings will conclude with choir performances next to the Donald Dewar statue at the top of Buchanan Street.

Gordon Matheson, leader of Glasgow City Council, believes the event will provide a "fantastic" spectacle.
