Craig Wilson Ltd sell 785 prime hoggs at an average of 200p

MESSRS Craig Wilson Ltd sold 785 prime hoggs at Ayr yesterday (including sheep with adult teeth up) to a top of £107 per head and 235p per kg to average 200p (-2.3p on the week).

Included in that average were 383 Blackface hoggs that averaged 203p. There were also 152 prime lambs on offer that peaked at £131 and 287.5p to level at 242p (+7.8p). The firm also had 286 cast sheep forward that met a big trade with rams particularly keenly sought after and selling to £137 for a Texel, while ewes sold to £124 for Texels and £70 for Blackfaces.

John Swan Ltd sold 61 prime heifers in St Boswells yesterday to a top of 242p per kg and an average of 205.5p (-3.3p), while 27 prime bullocks peaked at 226p and levelled at 206.4p (-2.3p).

In the rough ring 50 beef-type cattle averaged 124.8p (+5.4p). The firm also sold 937 prime hoggs to a top of £122 and 254.8p to average 218.3p (+10p), while 126 prime lambs also peaked at £122 and 281.6p to level at 264.5p (+14p).

The 653 cast sheep forward saw heavy ewes sell to £112.50 for Texels and average £89.98 (+£7.80), while light ewes peaked at £87 for Cheviots and levelled at £67.64 (+£4.39).

Harrison & Hetherington Ltd sold 34 prime heifers in Carlisle yesterday to a top of 217.5p and an average of 180.3p (-6.5p), while 56 prime, beef-bred bullocks peaked at 222.5p and levelled at 186.8p. Six, prime dairy-bred bullocks sold to 143.5p and averaged 134.6p.

Twenty-nine prime, beef-bred bulls sold to 205.5p and averaged 178.9p (+22.8p), while 34 prime, dairy-bred bulls peaked at 151.5p and levelled at 125p (+12.8p).

In the rough ring 102 beef cows averaged 130.9p (+3.3p) and 122 dairy cows levelled at 107.1p (+3.8p). Nine bulls averaged 111.6p (-23.3p). The firm also sold 510 prime hoggs to a top of £109.80 and 244.9p to average 226.6p (+20.1p), while 261 prime lambs peaked at £119.80 and 299.5p to level at 249.1p (+17.2p).

The 98 cast sheep forward saw ewes sell to £101.50 for Texels and £89.50 for Cheviot Mules.

Lawrie & Symington Ltd sold 22 prime heifers in Lanark yesterday to a top of 280p and an average of 216.2p (+0.2p), while 28 prime, beef-bred bullocks peaked at 242p and levelled at 196.6p (+4.3p). Twenty-three prime, B&W bullocks sold to 168p and averaged 129.7p (-5.9p).

In the rough ring 42 beef cows averaged 126p (+4p) and 28 dairy cows levelled at 103p (-1p).

Twenty-one OTM cattle averaged 122p (-8p).

The firm also sold 1629 prime hoggs to a top of £112.50 and 265p to average 212.7p (+5.1p), while 43 prime lambs peaked at £124 and 285.4p to level at 257.4p (+11.6p).
