Deadlock over EU pesticides ban proposals

THE EU's Standing Committee on the Food Chain and Animal Health failed to reach agreement on Friday on EU Commission proposals which would ban the use of three neonicotinoid treatments on spring cereals and crops that are attractive to bees.

NFU Scotland policy manager Andrew Bauer said: "It is likely that the EU Commission will send the proposal to an appeals committee including senior EU member state representatives this week and, if there is no qualified majority against the Commission proposals, they will prevail.
