Economy grows by 5.6% in US

The US economy grew by an annualised 5.6% at the end of 2009, slightly weaker than the 5.9% previously estimated, but still the fastest pace in six years, the Commerce Department in Washington said.

The revision was largely in line with expectations of Wall Street pundits, who figured gross domestic product, or national output, would be revised down to 5.7%. The revised figure set the stage for gains in employment that may keep expansion rolling ahead.
