THE Cumberland and Dumfriesshire Farmers Mart sold 61 store heifers in Dumfries yesterday to a top of 285.3p per kg and an average of 207.7p, while 143 store bullocks peaked at 300p and levelled at 234.9p.

Twenty store bulls sold to 282.2p and averaged 2437.3p.

Messrs Craig Wilson Ltd sold 1137 prime hoggs at Ayr yesterday to a top of £98 per head and 218.6p per kg to average 183.6p (-3.4p on the week).

There were also 644 cast sheep forward when ewes sold to £128 for a pen of Texels and £78.50 for Blackfaces. All classes were dearer on the week, with the overall average levelling at £64.89, which included 481 Blackface ewes.

John Swan Ltd sold 67 prime heifers in St Boswells yesterday to a top of 242p and an average of 218.8p (+1.3p), while 38 prime bullocks peaked at 240p and levelled at 217p (-2.5p). Three prime bulls averaged 161.7p.

In the rough ring 47 beef-type cows averaged 141.9p (+6.8p) and 7 clean OTM cattle levelled at 183.1p (-1.6p).

The firm also sold 2377 prime hoggs to a top of £106 and 228p to average £80.14 and 187.4p (-8.5p).

The 431 cast sheep forward saw heavy ewes sell to £141 for Texels and average £78.18, while light ewes peaked at £91 for Cheviots and levelled at £60.13.

Harrison & Hetherington Ltd sold 19 prime heifers in Carlisle yesterday to a top of 229.5p and an average of 200.2p (-3.5p), while 16 prime bullocks peaked at 226.5p and levelled at 207p (-1.3p). Twenty-five prime, beef-bred bulls sold to 224.5p and averaged 198.3p (+12p), while 46 prime, dairy-bred bulls peaked at 186.5p and levelled at 154.8p (+3.1p).

In the rough ring 76 beef cows averaged 140.3p (+12.4p) and 136 dairy cows levelled at 110.4p (+4.7p). Six bulls averaged 132.5p (+!p).

The firm also sold 2249 prime hoggs to a top of £116.80 and 267.8p to average 188.3p (+2.1p).

The 188 cast sheep forward saw ewes sell to £109.50 for Texels and £93.50 for North Country Cheviots.

Lawrie & Symington Ltd sold 17 prime heifers in Lanark yesterday to a top of 249p and an average of 234p (+1.2p), while 7 prime, beef-bred bullocks peaked at 237p and levelled at 219.9p (+4.2p0. Twenty-one prime, B&W bullocks sold to 158.5p and averaged 142.6p (-6.8p).

In the rough ring 38 beef cows averaged 132.2p (-2.5p) and 44 dairy cows levelled at 107.7p (+1.6p). Three bulls averaged 109.6p.

The firm also sold 1830 prime hoggs to a top of £98.50 and 220.9p to average 189.8p (+2.6p).

The 528 cast sheep forward saw ewes sell to £144.50 for a Texel and £88.50 for Blackfaces, with the overall average levelling at £78.30.
