GLASGOW and Edinburgh both figure in a list of the dozen most dynamic cities in Europe, compiled by commercial property specialist Jones Lang LaSalle.

JLL's City Momentum Index (CMI) 2015 places Scotland's largest city in 12th position, with Edinburgh at number six.

London was ranked first, followed by Dublin, Munich, Copenhagen, and Stockholm. Other cities in the top 12 include Paris, Oslo, the Randstad conurbation in the Netherlands, Berlin and Manchester.

In its report on Europe's most dynamic cities, JLL says: "Several UK cities are showing signs of resurgence, with Edinburgh, Manchester and Glasgow appearing alongside London in the European top 12, while Birmingham is just outside the top 12, in 13th position."

It observes that the major UK cities are seeing "robust demand for prime office space, increased rental growth and rising real estate investment levels".

Alasdair Humphery, lead director in Scotland for JLL, said: "In spite of recent political uncertainty and the resultant impact on the commercial property market in Scotland, Edinburgh and Glasgow are among those European cities reacting quickly to change and maintaining global competitiveness."

He added: "As the market settles down in the aftermath of the General Election, we expect to see continued momentum."

JLL says that its CMI tracks a city's short-term socio-economic and real estate momentum, in combination with measures of the longer-term foundations for success.

It adds that the world's most competitive cities are those that are quick to adapt to each new cycle of global change, and are building forward momentum.
