Has Scotland blown it?

Last week’s announcement that the Danish company Skykon, builder of turbine support tubes in Kintyre, is suspending payments to creditors putting 120 jobs at risk is not particularly good news for a country that aspires to be a powerhouse of clean technology.

Along with redundancies announced by Vestas in Denmark, Skykon’s problems reflect a slowdown in Europe-wide onshore wind orders, seemingly caused by planning delays and protestor activity.

There is still, however, much to play for.
