Hopes raised of review into EU sheep tag plans

A cross-party group of MEPs, including George Lyon and Alyn Smith, met with European health commissioner John Dalli yesterday to discuss the latest position on the introduction of electronic tagging of sheep (EID).

At the meeting, the Commissioner stated he was not opposed to a review of the implementation of the rules. Mr Lyon also pressed the Commissioner to publish exactly what flexibility they and their auditors had agreed with the Scottish Government when they carry out inspections.
