Jubilee joy for retailers as celebrations lift sales

UK RETAILERS have been enjoying their fastest year-on-year growth in sales since December 2010, although volumes remained below the levels considered normal for the time of year, a survey has revealed.

Of retailers surveyed by the Confederation of British Industry between May 24 and June 14, 58% reported that sales volumes were higher than at the same time last year and only 17% said they were lower. The rounded net 42% experiencing a rise in sales was the strongest reading since the balance of 56% reporting a year-on-year increase in December 2010.
