Manufacturing ‘leading recovery from downturn’

Manufacturing is leading the recovery from Scotland’s worst economic downturn since the Great Depression of the 1930s, but the key services sector is giving cause for concern, the British Chambers of Commerce (BCC) said yesterday in its latest survey.

Commenting on the quarterly report, Liz Cameron, chief executive of Scottish Chambers of Commerce, said: “Overall, Scotland’s economic situation seems to be more subdued than the rest of the UK.
