WALLETS Marts sold 1491 prime lambs in Castle Douglas on Tuesday to a top of £75 per head and 182.1p per kg to average 149.3p (-2.6p on the week).

There were also 580 cast sheep forward when ewes sold to £89 for Texels and £57 for Blackfaces.

Messrs Craig Wilson Ltd sold 948 prime lambs in Newton Stewart yesterday to a top of £78 and 181p to average 147p (-4.8p).

The 498 cast sheep forward saw ewes sell to £93 for Crosses and £66 for Blackfaces.

The Cumberland and Dumfriesshire Farmers Mart sold 10 prime heifers in Dumfries yesterday to a top of 235.5p per kg and an average of 219.6p.

There were 82 cattle presented in the rough ring when beef cows averaged 129.4p and dairy cows levelled at 96.7p.

The firm also sold 972 prime lambs to a top of £76 and 175p to average 155.4p (+3.1p).

The 1002 cast sheep forward saw heavy ewes sell to £124.50 for Texels and average £68.02 (-£1.85), while light ewes peaked at £76.50 for Cheviots and levelled at £45 (+£7.69).
