No jute, no jam … but pots of optimism

How typical of Dundee, that the closure of a deep-rooted industrial plant came in the same week the city was singled out by London-based economists as the shining exemplar of the UK’s smart, “rebalanced” industrial strategy.

 

DC Thomson’s decision last week to close its heritage-rich Guthrie Street printing works, putting 350 jobs at risk, is a reminder that the renaissance of Scotland’s fourth city has been spurred at every step by painful economic reality.
