Rise in retail sales may help lift UK out of recession

SHOPPERS buying warmer clothing and the launch of the latest iPhone were among factors which helped UK retail sales volumes rise 0.6% in September.

The data from the Office for National Statistics came in ahead of the 0.4% predicted by many analysts and economists. Volumes for August were also revised upwards to 0.1%.

Sales value was estimated to have increased by 1.1% between August and September.
