Scottish economy slowing ahead of looming cutbacks in public spending
Scotland’s economic growth trailed the UK-wide rate in the third quarter of last year, official data revealed yesterday, and a survey published today signals expansion has since slowed further.
The Scottish Government said yesterday that gross domestic product north of the Border grew by 0.5% quarter-on-quarter during the three months to September 30. This marked a sharp slowdown in growth from unusually strong expansion of 1.3% in the second quarter.
