Murray digs deep against Leonard Mayer to reach the last eight in Valencia

Andy Murray demonstrated that he has lost none of his fighting ability in his six weeks away from the tour after he overcame the stubborn and unexpected challenge of Argentina’s Leonard Mayer, the world No.64 to reach the quarter-finals of the Valencia Open last night.

The Scot, in his first tournament back after sustaining an injury to his left wrist, was pushed hard by Mayer before finally scrambling into the last eight with a 6-4 3-6 6-3 win.
