Varley condemns Obama reforms

Barclays chief executive John Varley yesterday criticised President Barack Obama’s US banking reform plans and warned putting too many requirements on banks could jeopardise economic recovery.

“What I lament about the US is that it has gone off on its own direction,” he told the powerful Treasury Select Committee of MPs, saying it put a global agreement at risk.
