Whisky I am

SEARCHING for people and businesses on Twitter can throw up some interesting suggestions.

Our look for an official “handle” for Scotch whisky distiller William Grant & Sons resulted in music star will.i.am, founder member of the Black Eyed Peas and star of TV show The Voice, appearing at the top of the list.

We don’t suppose the two parties have anything else in common, but we could be wrong.

In the charity swing

CHARITY was the name of the game when construction firm Kier hosted two golf outings at Turnberry recently.

The events, attended by companies connected to Kier’s supply chain and local authority representatives, raised more than £10,000 for Macmillan Cancer Support.

Kier has built up a strong presence in Ayrshire through its involvement with the hub South West procurement framework, which has seen it develop four secondary schools in the area.

Board of the week

WE do like a quirky sandwich board here at The Bottom Line.

And the best we found on our travels this week was found outside coffee shop Something in Clarkston town centre, pictured.

No doubt it raised a few smiles among the town’s time-pressed commuters.

Beyond the call of duty

A FORMER Investec wealth manager who gave up life in the financial services world to launch her own fitness label is preparing to face a major endurance test

Lauren Moss, owner of Edinburgh-based vivimoss, will bid for the Queen of the North title at mini CrossFit Games Beyond the Wall in Glasgow this weekend.

Crossfit, a strength and conditioning programme based on Olympic weightlifting, is taking the fitness world by storm. As many as 25,000 enthusiasts are believed to have entered online qualifiers for the recent CrossFit Games in California.

Ms Moss is already proving she has business stamina as well as the physical variety. Vivimoss, which she launched last summer, recently launched in Yorkshire and in London, with a pop-up event at the Bootcamp Pilates gym in Notting Hill.

Next month vivimoss will donate 20 per cent of proceeds from the sale of hot pink T-shirts and shorts to mark Breast Cancer Awareness Month.

Hacking for charity

SCOTLAND’S vibrant start-up sector is to stage what is believed to be the first charity “hackathon” to benefit a range of worthy causes,

Charity Hack Scotland, which takes place this weekend at The Melting Pot in Edinburgh, will give six charities with “digital conundrums” the chance to tap into the expertise of leading developers.

The event, promoted by local technology companies Mallzee and Social Stampede, is being organised by the Association of Chief Voluntary Officers of Scottish Voluntary Organisations (ACOSVO), supported by The Big Lottery Fund.

Breast Cancer Now, Carnegie UK Trust, Visibility, Carers Trust, Drake Music Scotland and CVS Inverclyde are the charities taking part.

Mallzee chief operating officer Callum Stuart:

Callum Stuart - COO of Mallzee said: “This is a great opportunity for two completely separate industries within the Scottish ecosystem, who might otherwise never meet, to come together and cross pollinate ideas, look at problems differently and inspire innovation in the third sector. It’ll be a great weekend, with lots of potential to seed change.”
