Capital move for Walls

BANK of Scotland has appointed Colin Walls to the role of head of trading and working capital north of the Border.

Mr Walls, who began his banking career more than 30 years ago, will manage a team of working capital specialists, supporting mid-market businesses turning over between £25 million and £750m.

He has been regional director for trade since joining the bank in 2013, having previously managed the asset-based lending division for Barclays Bank in Scotland and Ireland.

Mr Walls said: “I’m extremely excited about my new role at the Bank of Scotland and I am particularly looking forward to working with the team to help our mid-market customers enter new markets.

“Scottish firms are seeing fantastic growth opportunities around the world, especially in sectors like food and drink, and we are committed to working alongside them at this important time.”

Springfield swells its board

HOUSEBUILDER Springfield Properties has appointed two new non-executive directors to its board.

The appointments, made from within the company, have seen Tom Leggeat become director for affordable housing, with Ewan MacLeod named commercial director.

Mr Leggeat joined Springfield as a project surveyor in 2004, and has seen his role expand over the last 12 years. Mr MacLeod, who has worked in housing and property development for more than 20 years, joined Springfield as commercial manager two years ago.

Springfield chairman Sandy Adam said: “Tom and Ewan play an instrumental part in delivering our strategies for growth. They make an important contribution in terms of leadership and the financial success of the company.

“Their experience and knowledge of Springfield, and of the industry, is of immense value to the board as we develop strategies to take Springfield through its next growth stage.”

Buchan signs up at Empire

EMPIRE HR, the north-east human resources firm, has hired Claire Buchan as its business development manager.

Ms Buchan has joined Empire, which has offices in Aberdeen, Glasgow and Inverness, from her role as business manager with recruitment specialist Thorpe Molloy Recruitment.

He career has also included a spell as commercial development manager with Banff & Buchan College, where she helped develop its commercial arm.

Ms Buchan trained as a journalist at Aberdeen College and is currently studying for a business management degree at Robert Gordon University.

Her appointment comes shortly after Empire expanded its employment law team. This followed significant growth in customer enquiries resulting from the downturn in the oil and gas industry.

She said: “Empire has a unique proposition where clients can access a variety of professional services in one phone call, from employment law to mediation, from business realignment to contract details.

“I am looking forward to helping clients tap into this knowledge, to help protect their businesses for the long term.”
