CAROLYN McCall, the chief executive of easyJet, saw her total remuneration fall by one third in the latest financial year following a cut in her bonus and a drop in the value of share awards.

The airline’s annual report shows Ms McCall received total remuneration of £6.2m in the year to 30 September, down £3m, from £9.2m in the preceding year.

While easyJet increased profits around 20 per cent in the latest year, her bonus fell to £917,000 from £1,034,000. Ms McCall was able to collect share awards worth £4.5m in the latest year, compared with £7.4m in the preceding period.

Ms McCall’s salary increased to £694,000, from £677,000.

In the annual report Ms McCall said easyJet has built a platform to deliver profitable growth for 20 years. She said: “Our core leisure customer is part of a market that is growing strongly every year as people take more holidays and city breaks, complemented by a business travel market that prizes both flexibility and value.”

easyJet made £686m pre-tax profit in the latest year, up from £581m.

Last month the company said it is targeting a 10 per cent increase in passenger numbers in Scotland in the current year, to around six million, as it launches a range of new flights to destinations such as Milan and Marseilles to capitalise on strong demand from leisure and business travellers.

The shares awards were granted to Ms McCall in 2012, subject to measures such as the return on capital achieved by easyJet and movements in its share price.
