Tax specialist moves north
Accountancy firm BDO has transferred tax specialist James Paterson from London to the firm’s Edinburgh office.
Mr Paterson has a particular interest in real estate and has been brought in to expand the firm’s Edinburgh tax services. He trained with BDO and for the last nine years has worked with domestic and international groups on tax compliance matters, such as providing advice on the structuring of operations and shareholder issues.
A member of the Association of Taxation Technicians and the Chartered Institute of Taxation, Mr Paterson has been closely involved with entrepreneurial businesses involved in real estate as well as institutions and large corporate groups.
BDO Scotland chief Martin Gill said: “James is another great addition to our growing tax team. His appointment reflects the increased need for specialist tax advice in the buoyant Scottish market.
“BDO in Scotland has grown by 60 per cent over the last three years, both through merging and organically. We will continue to invest in quality people in the coming years to ensure our clients have the best advice from the best people.”
Currie appoints Nordic specialist
Martin Currie, the Edinburgh-based equity specialist, has appointed Andreas Wallendahl to head the company’s Nordic institutional business unit.
Based in London, Mr Wallendahl will report to David Townsend, Head of Europe, Middle East and Africa and Global Consultant Relations.
Mr Wallendahl brings with him 25 years’ experience working with some of the Nordic countries’ major asset allocators. A Norwegian national, Andreas speaks five languages and joins from BNY Mellon Investment Management where he was head of the Nordic region department.
Mr Townsend said: "Andreas brings a considerable knowledge of Scandinavian and North European financial markets to this role, combined with impressive business development experience and deep and established institutional and consultant relationships.”
Pinsent Masons beefs up Aberdeen real estate team
London-headquartered law firm Pinsent Masons has strengthened its real estate team in Aberdeen with the appointment of commercial property specialist Val McDougall.
Ms McDougall joins the firm as a consultant after 16 years with east coast law firm Raeburn Christie Clark & Wallace where she was a partner with a particular interest in residential development sites.
Rodney Whyte, a partner and head of Pinsent Masons’ real estate team in Aberdeen, said that, with demand for more than 115,000 new houses during the next Scottish Parliament, “Val will provide a valued additional resource to our housing team and will assist in servicing the growth aspirations of our existing clients throughout Scotland.
Ms McDougall said: “Pinsent Masons has a highly-respected track record in high-end commercial property work and I hope my experience and knowledge of the sector will add to their offering in Aberdeen and throughout Scotland.”
