KPMG strengthens enterprise team in Scotland

KPMG is targeting growth in its enterprise team in Scotland with two director appointments.

Craig Cavin has been appointed head of enterprise consulting at KPMG in Scotland and Ross Marshall joins as a tax director.

Both Mr Cavin and Mr Marshall will be based in Glasgow and KPMG said their recruitment marked a significant expansion of its enterprise team in Scotland, which was launched in October 2014 to support the growth of privately-owned businesses.

Mr Cavin will focus on helping Scottish companies identify and implement sustainable profitability, working capital and operational process improvements.

As tax director, Mr Marshall will specialise in advising entrepreneurs and their businesses on a range of tax matters including restructuring work, corporation acquisitions and disposals, right through to general corporate and personal tax advice.

Phil Charles, head of enterprise in Scotland and senior partner for KPMG’s Glasgow office, said: “Both [Craig and Ross] have enjoyed highly successful careers during which they have gained experience across a range of industry sectors and worked with both domestic and international clients.

“Their combined knowledge will provide invaluable insight and advice for clients and we’re confident we have the right people in place to continue driving our business forward.”

Architects succession plan takes shape

EMPLOYEE-owned architecture practice Page \ Page has restructured its management team to coincide with Co-operative Development Scotland (CDS)’s Employee Ownership Day (EO Day).

The Glasgow-based practice transferred to an employee ownership model three years ago and has implementing the next part of its transition by appointing Karen Pickering, who has been with the firm for 25 years, to the role of chair of the board with Andrew Bateman appointed managing director.

The practice was established in 1981 by David Page and Brian Park who will remain on the board in a collaborative model of management.

Outgoing chair Brian Park said: “The time has come for the next chapter in the Page \ Park journey. Karen Pickering has been with the company for 25 years and is well respected in the profession for her enthusiasm and support for exciting architecture across a wide range of fields. That energy and drive to ensure the best possible architectural outcomes will continue in her new leadership role as chair of the practice.”

Grocery chain names new managing director

CHRIS Gallacher has been promoted to managing director of independent convenience store chain, Dynamic Retail.

Dynamic, owned by the Marwaha family, operates nine shops in Glasgow and Ayrshire under the Scotfresh banner. Mr Gallacher, formerly of wholesaler Booker, had joined Dynamic as retail operations manager.

The promotion is part of a management restructure which will allow Shaun Marwaha, who runs the business with his parents Jack and Rita, to focus on the strategic growth of the company.

Scotfresh has become an established player in the market north of the Border over the last two years and is one of the largest independent operators in the country.

Mr Marwaha said: “I initially brought in Chris to help restructure the business and develop our existing growth strategy with food to go at its core,” he continued. “With Chris taking full control of the day-to-day running of the business I am now in a position to invest more time and energy in seeking new business.”
